The world is rapidly changing. Al Gore, in his film ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ examines the snowball impact of global warming and predicts a bleak future should we do nothing today to halt the devastating impact humanity has had on the natural world. We are standing on the verge of utter chaos and widespread environmental disaster. This crisis will not take place in the distant future, but will be felt severely in our lifetimes.

This project requires you to consider the impact of changing global climates and the ways in which Australians and the wider global community can combat the impact of climate change now and into the future.

Your task is to design an environmentally friendly urban environment for the Australia of 2050 and beyond. You should consider the impact of climate change and the concept of sustainable development as well as aesthetics and practicality in designing your urban environment.

To reach this end, you will be required to blog your ideas using this ning site. You should also respond to existing ideas by posting replies and engaging in online discussion.

Geo Issues

In your design, you must consider these following issues:

Urban decline, growth and renewal
Air Quality
Spatial Inequality
Land and water management
Coastal management
Waste management
Eco friendly materials and design
Sustainability

Fielding wants solar flare theory investigated

Family First Senator Steve Fielding says increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere might not be causing global warming.

He has been at a climate change conference in the United States where he heard that solar flares could be linked to temperature change.

The Government wants the Senate to vote on its carbon reduction scheme this month.

Senator Fielding says he wants to talk to government scientists about his concerns before… Continue

Commiting the nation to a great cause that has the potential to wipe us out

What are Australia’s local and global commitments to climate change? Can they reasonably be achieved?

Ok, I think that some of you may be thinking isn't my title a bit to exaggerated? Well not really as climate change is something really important as it is about the place we live in and in the coming future it could really damage our environment to an extent that it is hard to live in.

Now I want to ask you a question that requires your personal reflection. Do you believe that Australia is doi… Continue

Week 4 question: Taking the big step in producing sustainable infrastructure.

How can we design our urban infrastructure so that it becomes environmentally friendly and sustainable for 2050 and beyond?

Infrastructure is a big part of the community, suburb, city, state and the country all around the world. You can describe it as the building blocks of the society since to the basic facilities, services and installations needed for the functioning of a community, which is why it is a big deal and without it the world would not be as it is. It includes things like transport… Continue

Climate Change: The Past to the Present

Poem 1
We were once told of our ancestors,
The people of the past,
But now we are illusioned,
From them, who away we cast.

A thousand years of knowledge,
A thousand years of pain,
Carelessly redeveloped,
Did we doubt their brain?

They lived in the world,
In which all was to sustain,
How can we take an oath and say,
That we will not do it again?

For today what we perceive,
Is like of smoke a screen,
How is it for us to know,
That they are the very same scene?

We came from many a clan,… Continue

SS03 - GROUP 11 JUSTIFICATION 9.3/4

In our groups justification we will explain how and why our public park design is eco friendly for the year 2050, to help the community and most importantly, Earth. We will discuss the renewable source of energy we will use and sustainable elements we have included in our municipal Park and how they can help make the Earth a cleaner place. The program that we used to make our Park is Google Sketch-Up 7, which is a free program that allows you to design and construct models. In our park we create… Continue
